LoveQR’s journey

How to read this page
LoveQR has three years of development behind it, across several stages: the QR generator and its usage test, the 3D augmented reality engine, messaging, the separation of public and intimate spaces, accessibility, ecology, payments, and the professional space.
Separately, and more recently, there is the work of populating augmented reality with external sources. That undertaking has its own two phases, phase 1 and phase 2, and it is the only place in this document where these terms are used. They do not refer to the product development stages, which came before.
Where we stand — 29 October 2026
The product is built. A local augmented reality social network, in your phone’s browser, with no app to install and no headset, in eleven languages. A proprietary 3D engine based on geography and the phone’s sensors. End-to-end encrypted private messaging. Separate public and intimate spaces. Accessibility settings applied throughout the website and augmented reality.
Phase 1 of populating the platform went live and was completed in September 2026 The geographical layer is in production: every municipality, village, street, square, tourist site and some establishments have their own listing, readable in augmented reality. It draws on data from OpenStreetMap and Geoapify, covers every Swiss municipality and, since September 2026, the entire world. For a public authority, this means there is nothing to build, nothing to fund and nothing to install.
Phase 2 is under way, and is the focus of our current outreach. What the map lacks is real activity: village festivals, markets, tournaments, resort event calendars. GeoFun, our geospatial search engine, has been integrated into augmented reality since October 2026 and is waiting to be populated. This cannot be done alone: the information belongs to municipalities and tourist offices. Outreach is under way in French-speaking Switzerland, starting with the Vaud Chablais. LoveQR is free for municipalities and tourist offices.
Around 53 accounts as of 29 October 2026. No institution is using it yet.
2023 — The test
August and September 2023
Development of the first LoveQR QR generator, with profiles that can be shared in public spaces.
9 October 2023 — loveqr.net
Launch of the first QR generator with lightweight profiles. Start of a year-long usage test, in the post-Covid context.
October 2024 — test result
More than 200,000 QR codes generated in Switzerland and France over the year. This evidence of use determined what came next.
2024 — The turning point
9 September 2024
Deposit of the concept with Datasure (Copyright.eu), proof-of-prior-existence certificate no. 9810, under the title “Encounters through visual cryptograms”. This is neither a patent nor a registered trademark.
6 November 2024
Acquisition of loveqr.us, loveqr.fr and loveqr.ch.
November and December 2024
Decision to allow QR codes to be shared digitally, rather than only in physical locations. Two workstreams followed: a geospatial 3D engine and an internal messaging system enabling direct communication from a LoveQR profile.
2025 — Building
January 2025
Start of in-house development of the proprietary 3D augmented reality engine, based on geography and the phone’s sensors, and QR-based messaging without a phone number.
During 2025
Separation into two spaces: LoveQR Friendship, free, with a public profile, and LoveQR Premium, intimate. Two distinct profiles, for clearer consent management.
25 September 2025
Acquisition of loveqr.eu and loveqr.de.
1 October 2025
Completion of development of the beta version.
7 October 2025
Acquisition of loveqr.dating, to prevent the name from being taken by someone else.
6 December 2025 — loveqr.social
Definitive address and launch of the LoveQR Simply You beta. The other addresses continue to work. Acquisition of simply-you.social on the same day, followed by lqr.social on 12 December.
15 December 2025 — eleven languages
The platform is available in eleven languages from launch, for broad accessibility in Switzerland and internationally. Since that date, everything added has been created directly in all eleven languages.
2026 — The platform
January 2026 — LoveQR Pro
Opening of the professional space: claiming a venue, a venue events calendar, a management space, a QR code specific to each venue, and flyer generation with door QR codes for small establishments. A paid offering for businesses, and free for public authorities, municipalities and tourist offices.
February 2026 — accessibility
Introduction of accessibility settings: three text sizes, bold text, enhanced contrast, reduced animations, and four colour filters including three for colour blindness — protanopia, deuteranopia and tritanopia. These settings apply throughout the website and to augmented reality itself, with a live preview. No certification is claimed.
April 2026 — ecology
A user can fund a tree for one franc, planted by Ecologi Action Ltd, and the number of trees they have funded appears on their profile, visible to everyone. The idea is simple: if LoveQR grows, reforestation grows with it.
August 2026 — payments
Introduction of the payment system through Stripe, making the Premium subscription, the professional offering and tree funding operational.
August and September 2026 — GeoFun
In-house development of GeoFun, a geospatial search engine designed specifically for LoveQR’s augmented reality. It displays activities around the user, divided into seventeen categories: music, dance, sport, gaming, cosplay, workshop, tasting, art, nature, wellness, meetup, party, cinema, market, children, visit, miscellaneous.
September 2026 — launch and completion of phase 1
The geographical layer goes live in augmented reality and phase 1 is complete: all Swiss municipalities, then the entire world, have their geography readable as a layer. It draws on data from OpenStreetMap and Geoapify, with the system for representing points of interest and places developed in-house for augmented reality.
14 September 2026 — NZZ–ZHAW ranking
Registration for the Startup Selection Award in the Startup Selection category. Confirmation received the same day: the profile is part of the Startup Ranking 2026.
17 September 2026 — widgets
Release of two free widgets, embeddable in any website with a single line of code: “Around this place”, displaying places, public posts, points of interest and events within up to 5 km, and “Full LoveQR”, bringing the entire experience into the page, including augmented reality. Eleven languages, automatic matching of the host page’s language, no tracking cookies, and only public data exposed. Updated on 27 September.
October 2026 — GeoFun enters augmented reality, and phase 2 begins
Integration of GeoFun into the augmented reality engine, to be read as the new layer. This marks the start of phase 2: regional activities in French-speaking Switzerland, then throughout Switzerland, supplied through institutional partnerships.
15 October 2026
Publication of the “Who is behind LoveQR” page.
Monday 26 October 2026 — end-to-end encryption
Private messaging is end-to-end encrypted using AES-256-GCM: text, animated emoji, images, drawings, revealable photos, audio, shared profiles and game invitations are encrypted on the device before sending, with a per-message key protected for each active device using ECDH P-256. Game moves and draws are transmitted encrypted and verified by both devices. No key backups: a new device cannot read the history. Up to five active devices, removable under “My devices”.
28 October 2026
Update to the legal notice and privacy policy.
29 October 2026
Blog launch.
The two phases of populating augmented reality
Phase 1 — the map. Launched and completed in September 2026, at our expense. All Swiss municipalities, then the entire world, have their geography readable in augmented reality as a layer: municipalities, villages, streets, squares, tourist sites, points of interest. The data comes from OpenStreetMap and Geoapify. The system for representing points of interest and places in augmented reality was developed in-house for this phase.
Phase 2 — life. Under way. The map does not say what is happening. Events currently visible are collected automatically from public sources: they are incomplete and no one maintains them. Phase 2 consists of bringing in real regional activities, first in French-speaking Switzerland and then throughout Switzerland, through partnerships with the stakeholders who hold this information — municipalities, tourist offices, regional organisations. GeoFun is the tool ready to receive them, with its seventeen activity categories.
The division of roles is simple: we provide the map; the municipalities and tourist offices bring it to life.

What we do not promise
Application data is hosted in Germany, in the European Union. Never in Switzerland, and we do not claim otherwise.
End-to-end encryption covers private messaging. It does not cover augmented reality posts, public profiles, Community messages or presence: that content is intended to be seen. It also does not cover older messages, or messages exchanged with a device without a LoveQR key. The server can still see who communicates with whom, dates, and message types and sizes.
Geographical data comes from OpenStreetMap and Geoapify. A municipality may find omissions or errors there that do not originate with us, and we do not correct them manually.
No representative in the European Union has yet been appointed under Article 27 of the GDPR; the need for such an appointment still requires assessment.
The Datasure certificate is proof of prior existence, neither a patent nor a registered trademark.
No accessibility certification is claimed: the settings exist, but there is no certification label.
The site has been available in eleven languages since 15 December 2025, with one exception: the blog is currently only in French. The guide pages are available in all eleven languages.
No service can promise absolute security, and encryption does not protect a compromised, unlocked device.
